
Community By Community is a not for profit organization whose purpose is to expand opportunities and improve the quality of life of children and families and to build and sustain healthy communities in the New York City area.
Our focus is to create an awareness of the need of strong family relationships by providing a support network for parents as they continue to nurture and raise their families. We believe that developing strong families will create strong communities.
Cecilia Ruiz Dorta was born in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As a single mother of two daughters, Dorothy M. Sanabria and Rachel-Anne Morales, Cecilia decided to pursue her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and graduated from the College of Staten Island in May of 1994. Her passion for education continued as she completed her Masters in Bi-lingual Education, with honors, at Adelphi University in 1997.
Cecilia dedicated 16 years of her life to the field of education serving as a program coordinator, parent advocate, and classroom teacher. During these years, she traveled to countries including Mexico, Guatemala, and Africa where she worked with underprivileged communities and assisted in various community projects
As founder and Executive Director of Community by Community, Cecilia Ruiz Dorta desires to empower individuals in communities so that future generations will be positively impacted. She currently lives in New York City with her husband David.
